China has proposed the initiative of co-building the "Silk Road Economic Belt" and the "21st Century Maritime Silk Road". Xiamen Special Economic Zone, bearing the mission of the era, has focused on the new goals of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) to face international competition with a more confident attitude and to facilitate the construction of an important hub city on the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.

BRI has started the transformation and upgrading of China's economic construction and development under the new normal. Focusing on this target and taking its unique advantages in port, trade and investment, as well as in overseas Chinese, humanistic history and non-governmental exchange, Xiamen has innovated its cooperation mechanisms, expanded cooperation fields, and multiplied the effects of the Free Trade Zone (FTZ) pilot area to match the global high-tech and industrial transfer wave.

Xiamen has also built an international business environment to effectively explore the "simulation of an international investment environment" in line with global economic integration, and has taken the initiative to attract foreign investment and further open cooperation areas in infrastructure construction and port-centric industrial development, building the coastal city into a supporting city of the "New Maritime Silk Road".
