The city tree of Xiamen is Delonix Regia, also called "Red Jacaranda" or "Flame Tree". It originated in Africa and belongs to the family of leguminous deciduous trees. It can grow up to 20 meters.

A saying about the tree goes "leaves like flying phoenix feathers and flowers like the crown of the red phoenix". The petals of Delonix Regia are bright red or orange when in full bloom, gorgeous against its green feather-shaped compound leaves. 

Passionate and romantic, Delonix Regia can evoke people's torrid feelings. It symbolizes the style and features of Xiamen, the Xiamen people's character and the prosperous scene of Xiamen Special Economic Zone.
