Xiamen to accelerate 5G application

China Mobile Communication Corporation (CMCC) made Xiamen's first 5G video call on April 27, officially bringing the city into the era of 5G.
Xiamen has been accelerating 5G application since the beginning of the year and expects to build a number of pre-commercial 5G networks by year's end
CMCC Xiamen has been developing new types of information infrastructure and has established a special laboratory for 5G edge computing.
CMCC also cooperated with communication equipment manufacturers such as Huawei and universities such as Xiamen University and Tsinghua University to carry out 5G application demonstrations in the areas of transportation, industrial energy, marine fisheries, and education, among others.
In addition to CMCC, another China telecoms carrier, China Unicom, is also working on 5G application in Xiamen. China Unicom has implemented 5G network coverage in several of Xiamen's key sites, including the Xiamen subway station, in March of this year.
Additionally, according to official announcements, Xiamen will issue a digital economy development plan this year and build a public service platform for big data.
It is expected that the output value of the internet of things industry in Xiamen will exceed 60 billion yuan ($8.92 billion) this year.
