The Universal Expo of Architectures is located in Xiamen's Gulangyu Scenic Area. It is not a building's name, but a combination of various Chinese and Western architectures on Gulangyu island. These buildings, the essence of cultural exchange between China and the western countries, are collectively known as the Universal Expo of Architectures.
Among them, there are traditional Chinese temples with cornices, south Fujian-style courtyards, exquisite small Japanese houses, former consulates of Western countries featuring 19th century' European styled buildings and Shuzhuang Garden, one of the classic gardens in south China.
In recent years, the scenic spots in the Universal Expo of Architectures that have been completed in succession are underwater world, Haoyue Park with a statue of Zheng Chenggong – China's first voyager, Yu Garden, Huiqiao Subtropical Plant Park, Xiamen Museum showcasing Xiamen's history, Zheng Chenggong Memorial Hall, and Sea-watching Resort.
It is really a rare sight for so many parks and buildings to be in an area of mere 1.78 square kilometers.
