Established in 2002, Xiamen Academy for Performing Arts features art education, but is also a comprehensive full-time higher education institute with majors in culture, arts, economics and management. 

It now has eight departments featuring dance, music, science, arts, musicals, TV editing and directing, performance, and economy and management, and has launched 17 majors that meet the needs of Xiamen's social, economic and industrial developments. 

The school emphasizes cultural and artistic exchanges between Fujian and Taiwan, and built a long-term tie with a Taiwan vocational college in 2010. It also uses the favorable location of Xiamen to invite prestigious artists and arts groups from Taiwan to give lectures and conduct academic exchanges.
