China's bookstore chain Yanjiyou recently opened a new brick-and-mortar bookstore in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province. With an area of more than 2,000 square meters, the bookstore is expected to inject a new sense of cultural vitality into the city.
The bookstore was designed by Chen Junjia, global champion of the World Youth Designer competition. In addition to areas for browsing books and cultural and creative products, the store also offers many new elements, such as a creative interactive space and a coffee lounge.
The mural in the resting area was specially created by Liu Song, an artist from the Central Academy of Fine Arts, and features elements from Xiamen's culture and surrounding landscapes.
Many unique bookstores have been popping up in Xiamen in recent years. According to media reports, a total of seven private bookstores covering over 300 square meters were opened in the city in 2018.
